Justin grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and developed a lasting interest in infectious diseases as an undergraduate at UCLA. In the Peter Bradley Lab, Justin helped adapt tools such as CRISPR/Cas9 and BioID to study the cell biology of Toxoplasma gondii. Building on this interest in infectious diseases research, Justin completed a PhD in the Christian Tschudi Lab at Yale University, where he characterized proteins involved in the rapid acquisition of infectivity in Trypanosoma brucei.

 Drawn to the field of biologics development, Justin later joined a small biotechnology company, where he gained experience in T7 phage display and antibody mimetic development. He subsequently joined the Herman Antibodyomics Lab, where he applies PhIP-seq and system serology to identify protective humoral responses to infectious organisms, which may inform therapeutic development and future vaccine design.

Outside of work, Justin enjoys watching competitive eating, practicing calisthenics, and reading about a wide range of topics.
