Dr. Jonathan Herman has recently received the UC Early Career Faculty Research Excellence Award (Developing Antigen-Specific B-cell Receptor Repertoires to the Whole Malaria Proteome to Inform Vaccine Development) from The University of California Office of the President (2026) and the Young-Physician Scientist Award from the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2025). Congratulations to Dr. Herman and lab!
July 2026: We want to welcome our new HALab members who joined us this summer: Amman Klair, a graduate student in Genetics and Genomics and John Li an undergraduate researcher majoring in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. Elaine Yip, also rotated in the lab in Spring 2026 and will be joining as one of our newest lab members in Fall 2026. Welcome Amman, John, and Elaine!
This summer we also have a new student rotating in the lab, Ricardo Roure, who is part of the Systems Biology PhD program. Welcome Ricardo!
Hyacintha Bisimwa graduated from the HALab in July 2026 to pursue her PhD in the Programs in Biomedical and Biological Sciences (PIBBS) at the University of Southern California. Thank you Hyacintha for all your contributions to the HALab. You will be missed!

March 2026: The HALab also presented at the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology in Keystone, Colorado. This year’s theme was “B Cells and Plasma Cells: Fundamental and Translational Biology”.

This past Spring 2026, we had Rohan Vanheusden, who is pursuing a PhD in the Systems Biology program, and Yashas Appaji, a graduate student, rotate in the lab.
